Decatur School Board Feted With Catered Executive Session

If you were worried that the drastic cuts being leveled at the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township was going to negatively impact our School Board - fear not. They continued their tradition of having Executive Sessions as catered affairs. School cafeteria workers catered and served the Board and the Superintendent, Don Stinson, last night. As a extra special treat, the School Board ordered a special cake to be baked especially for Stinson. Isn't that sweet.

Ahhh !! Its a good life if you're Don Stinson, Dale Henson, Don Huffman, Judy Collins, Cathy Wiseman, or Doug Greenwald. No sense pinching pennies just because you are about to lay other people off.

When are the people of Decatur going to wake up to the BS thats going on around them.We need someone or 3 to run against those seated now on the school board THEY MUST GO NOW before they brake the twp. of what little is left.

It was suggested that the district stop catering the enrollment management meetings to save money. How lovely that they were able to take the catering money from February's enrollment meeting and spend it on cake for the school board.

Well, at least the cafeteria workers were able to get a few more hours before they get laid off.

Why dont these people eat before they go to these meetings?
The meeting wasnt suppose to be held until February the 4th bu tisnt it funny that they hold a secret meeting and dont tell anyone.
I wonder if the meeting for Feb 11th will be that day or will they change that so know one knows about it.
Instead of getting just 3 new members on the board there has to be a way of getting all of those seated off and a whole new school board take over. They have don enough damage.
I hope Mr Stinson enjoyed his cake cause he is definetly having his cake and eating it too.
Sorry about all of us "average" people that live in this township i guess we must suffer so they can have home made cake and catered meals.

Will all the people that are losing their jobs because of this administration get a catered meal and a home made cake for their deciated service to this community and to these kids? I doubt it.

Honesty...only when it suits the agenda

Respect for the students, employees, & public they serve... only when it saves face

MSD Decatur Twsp's best interests were at heart...only when they were trying to get a job or a vote

Safe schools & safe transportation for our students... only if it fits in the budget - (after pensions are paid, gas tanks are filled, & exorbitant salaries are paid to people who continually fail to produce results and have less credentials than lesser paid employees of more fiscally responsible school districts - yes in higher median income areas as well)

BUT --- there SHALL be cake!

They say the cafeteria fund is self-supporting. Well, it is supported by student lunch prices so our kids are supporting these extrafagant things. The kids deserve better. They just get fatter and fatter.

Heard that the cuts have already started!

They started letting people go last night that work at the DDA Challenger and Ivy Tech.
So where will the firing take place today???

Everyone that is on that board or is a administrator needs to be removed and a whole new adminsitration take place.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the house sitting to the right of the ECC? Does the school district actually own that house? If they do there better be a good reason (other than a place for the school police to hang out at all day).

Yes, it belongs to the Township
at first it was for the TECH people for the townships school, then it was for security, now it is a used as a class room for the program called the NEST, students that are ouver 18 yrs old up to about 22 yrs old that still need help in getting along on their own in the work place/world. The school police office is now in the middle school, they get moved around alot, 1st bus garage, 2nd the house, 3rd high school, now the middle school

Is it efficient for a school to own a relatively nice house sitting on what looks to be about an acre of land? What about all of the new construction? Why did they not factor additional space needs in when planning that construction rather than buying a house?! What in the world are they thinking?

if you check the other postings you will see all the land and building that the schood system has brought besides the house next to the ECC but beware you will be scared and shocked

Why has the school system "blocked" the Had Enough Indy blog?.

Anonymous said...

All internet blogs are blocked. So is YouTube - which was really funny when Stinson tried to show a YouTube video as part of a presentation and couldn't.

anon 9:15 & 10:15 - They don't get the idea that in this day and age you cannot control information.

Much better to simply be honest. Much easier, too.

There are so many secrets and it is time to be honest. They know how to twist and turn things.

Someone needs to find out if it is true that Stinson's secretary gets her insurance fully paid by the school district just like the superintendent?? How much will be the cost of unemployment for every teacher they lay off??? Does Anna Cook get a teachers job over a beginning teacher? She will be at the top of the pay schedule. Why is Candice Baer paid almost as much as David Rather? Why can't the superintendent and Susan Adams both drive the white truck? Why should teachers take a pay cut when they are having their cake and eating it too???????

Below is the bulk of anon 11:08's comment. I think we have to stay away from specific accusations of a moral or criminal nature without proof. I think it fair to say, tomfoolery on the job by highly placed individuals is destructive in any organization.

anon 11:08 ---
I'm sure the money came from another fund thats always what they say. They are probably trying to figure out how they can get more of their family members a job here We need to stop letting Jeff B make the calls on what is going to happen for our future when hes not going to be here , he's already made a big enough mess while his bank account is growing.

Thank you. Decatur Township has enough to worry about without gossip wars.

Everyone needs to stay mad and show up for the meeting on the 11th of February. That is if they dont move it so the residents cant show up. People seem to be mad at whats going on but you need to stay mad and demand that the andministrators and school board do what is right for the employees of the school not for them. How about they start feeding the families that they got rid of their jobs. They all certainly make enough money they could take some of our bills and pay them. Its time to get rid of the board and administrators. Stand up for your rights and children or our kids will be sitting in class rooms that have 35 to 40 kids in the class. and the board and administrators will still be hiding things from us and having their nice catered dinners while some of us try to figure out how we are going to feed our family because we dont have a job.

anon 9:06 - we need to stay mad AND RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD.

Three candidates must step forward - or these rubber stampers keep the majority on the Board.

EVERYONE who is honest and cares about both the students' education AND the community is qualified and should be considering running.

NO EXUSES !!!!! Step up NOW !!!

Unfortunately, I believe that most people are afraid to step up and run for board for fear of being done to them what is being done to the current board members & administrators. It is fine to attack the actions of the person, but not the person him/herself. These people ran for board for the same reasons anyone else would, for change for the better. Most of us do not possess the knowledge of what it takes to run a school board or administration and at the first little mistake, would be thrown under the bus. Me? I'd love to run for school board and try to do the right thing, however I'm not up for putting my family through the drama of it. Years ago, I spoke out on several issues I believed were wrong and wanted change. I spoke at school board meetings, went to special meeting and was on committees. Unfortunately, it negatively affected my kids and my family. Not everyone "plays nice". If it were just me, I could handle it, but when it affects your kids, it's really tough to take. Not only that, people find things to "dig up" that may not be accurate and next thing you know, it's a big lie in an article in the Times. Gossip runs wild in Decatur and unless you are up for the challenge, you're not going to run. I vividly remember Pat Andrews being on school board and "doing the right thing" and disagreeing opening with the then board and voting "no" when others voted "yes" and how she became the "ugly duckling" or "black sheep" for wanting change or trying to use her knowledge. Now, those same people that "labeled" her, are looking back and scratching their heads... Who wants to be treated that way? That's exactly what happens when you don't "go with the flow" on a school board. Not only that, but if you do run and are elected but don't possess the knowledge it does take (for example, the laws broken that are mentioned throughout these blogs)such as making the correct notifications, etc, you will be persecuted publicly and written and gossiped about. I can honestly say I respect every one of the board members for attempting to do what they believe is right, however I disagree with most of their actions and do want change; but I'm not willing to be the one to make the change myself at the expense of my family. That is why you don't see people jumping up and down to run for school board.

Where do you find a district map if you aren't sure what district you reside in? And "Decatur Township School Board (Three members elected - Either 2 elected from District 3 and 1 from District 1 OR 2 elected from District 1 and 1 from District 3)" this was taken from the election board site, how is it decided? As of today, there are no candidates for school board and we are running out of time! One week is the deadline people!

Again, as "Nicole" requested, I'm revealing my name now that I know I can do that without creating an account, which I didn't want to do...I have too many to track already. So I'm revealing my postings as I am not cowardly. I posted "February 11, 2010 10:08 AM" and two following that one.
