Resistance And The Environment

We need to elect good, intelligent, thoughtful people to office. How do we get there given the entrenched interests that normally overrule the public interest? What's gone right recently? What's gone wrong recently? How do we improve our government by improving our choices for public office?

Whats the big deal? He's INNOCENT until proven guilty. Besides; 0.12 USED to be the legal limit. This isn't so bad. Leave the poor guy alone.
You forgot to add this, Tattoo:
"This site is being monitored. Once again, Dr. Stinson did NOTHING wrong. He is the best Administrator that Decatur Township EVER had."
LOL! LOL! LOL!
That's only 0.07 less than Officer Bisard registered. Oh, and 0.10 is whwt the limited 'used to be.'
Anonymous 3:57 - Leave the poor guy alone so he can kill some innocent person in a car accident? I think not. At $300,000 per year he can afford a taxi - does he care? He drinks because his wife left him or his wife left him because he drinks? This guy is not an appropriate role model for today's youth or is this what we teach them?????? Is it time for Decatur to say good-bye? His wife is the one with common sense.
His wife left him along time ago so dont use that excuse. And she kicked him out she didnt leave him. GET RID OF HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!! If he were a teacher you can bet they would fire him.
People make mistakes. He should be held to the same level of punishment that an average citizen would. I am not condoning the action by any means, I am simply saying that this man will no longer have a career due to the mistake of one night. He should be fined, and action of the law should be taken. But the loss of a career and personal attacks (including jabs about his wife) are uncalled for.
if he loses his job he wont be hurting he is collecting on his retirement now. and nobody took a jab at his wife. I think she is a smart woman to get rid of him. his reputation is dragging hers down
No jabs about his wife the fact is she filed for divorce Sept.8,2008 so 6:14 your right a long time ago and yes 7:34 people do make mistakes but of one night i would have to wonder if it is just one night or one night he was busted? how many mistakes does it take till you cut your loses and move on? sounds like it's that time
well since he just made a mistake and we shouldnt pick on him then I guess Office Bisard shouldnt be picked on he just made a mistake too. and everyone makes mistakes even if it could have taken someones life while he was driving. if that happened would you be defending him then. I bet not
sorry Sept 8 2009 not 2008
I am sorry I meant to phrase that better. They are taking jabs at HIM by bringing up a painful situation in his life regarding his wife. And perhaps you are right but I still think forcing someone to end their career early (who in my opinion has done a fantastic job) for one poor choice, just doesn't seem fair to me. Then again, life isn't fair I suppose.
Also, I will restate, I am not saying his actions should go without punishment. I just think losing a career is too harsh.
well maybe Susan Adams isnt consoling him enough and he had to go to Bubbaz to find him something a little younger and not so used up
Please read the paper almost every day we read about someone losing their career because of one poor choice no mind if they are doing a good job or not. people have to be held accountable for their actions and when your a person in the public eye and in charge of the education of our children you have to be held to an even higher standard and your punishment harder to show out kids what can and will happen when your wrong.and he brought up his wife not one else.
I'm curious, what is the school policy wrt the behavior of student athletes/students within Decatur Township?
If a student was caught and charged with a DWI outside of school hours, would the student be held accountable for his/her transgression of the law? And, if so,would the student be excluded from participating in athletic/extracurricular school activities?
If this is indeed the case, and Stinson receives no reprimand or consequence for his misadventure through the Hendricks Country Criminal System, why would the school system lower the bar wrt the standards of faculty/personnel in such transgressions?
What is the amount of dollars the township pays Stinson for his car allowance per year?
Don Stinson should not lose his career, but should leave Decatur and continue his career elsewhere, if any school system will have him. He's run Decatur into the ground and is definitely not a good role model for our kids. Let's hope the board goes outside of the township and finds an honest person who is in it for the kids and the future of the system, not how much money can be collected.
Yes, athletes and cheerleaders "caught" drinking outside of school are supposed to be expelled from all teams. Many years ago exceptions were made for Decatur football players and cheerleaders. Board members thought the punishment was too harsh. Drinking age 21!
In another township, when an athlete attended a party with alcohol present if that athlete confessed to the coach that they attended, the punishment was reduced to missing one game. This was especially true if that athlete's father was a coach. If her father was not one of the coaches she was kicked off all teams and her letters taken away.
Point is that exceptions are always made for certain people.
Stinson should be fired.
What he did was nothing short of reckless. And you can bet this wasn't the first time he has driven while drunk. He is an alcoholic, and needs to get help. To use his wife as an excuse strongly suggests he is in denial about the situation.
Stinson knows right from wrong.
Does the school district give a car allowance or does the district own or lease the car?
anon 7:57 - Stinson's contract calls for a vehicle allowance of $1000 per month, plus all of the gas for his professional and personal use.
DI, It used to be higher than .10 before it got lowered to that. It was like .15 or .12...it's dropped a lot over the years.
The claim though that he had only two beers and two glasses of wine is not true. You don't get anywhere close to .12 even if you chugged two beers and two glasses of wine.
Paul's right - you don't get to 0.12 after 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine.
He lied about his alcohol consumption then brought his wife into it. He's clearly in denial.
Driving while intoxicated + denial = ALCOHOL abuse
I taught in Decatur Township for several years and was unimpressed with the entire operation. Students were the least of my problems. Mediocre colleagues at the building and administrative level were the norm and were tolerated for lack of candidates with more intellect and professionalism. I could go on, but I won't. Sad part is that Decatur Township is quite typical and was actually the BEST of several districts in which I taught over a twenty year career.
This is not an attack on Stinson or anyone in particular in the district. My colleagues were all quite affable and I never had any particularly negative interactions with anyone. I coped with my own frustrations without alcohol, but I frequently crashed at home on the sofa at 5PM after an exhausting day and didn't stir until the crack of dawn when I had to get ready to start all over again. Everyone deals with stress differently, and there is plenty of it in the teaching profession. In this "tell all" information age, the public now gets the full picture that insiders have known about all along. As my Mom used to say "You get what you get".
Just call me a former teacher.
Has there been an investigation of Stinson's "accident" resulting a his cut forehead(had stitches and a black eye) a couple of months ago? He said he fell out of a chair?? He says he doesn't have a drinking problem???
Since Cathy Wiseman lost her house, I hear she's not even a Decatur resident any more. How can she be on the school board?????
May God Be with you Always D.S.
For all of you that have nothing better to do than judge someone else's life or ridicule their explanation's, maybe you need to take time and examine yourself. That is no way to teach our children. As for for a superintendent he has done an excellent job for the community and the children. What have U done?
He's actually been trying to fix problems in the schools and community, he's not been Decatur's problem.
Anon 3:53: You're right. He's not the problem. This school board is the problem.
I've never been picked up for drunk driving, and I've never stolen money from children to pad my retirement. I doubt many of us have. Don't try to make Stinson's conduct out to be something we ALL do, sweet cheeks.
OMG i just read what the bord president said about not doing anything to stinson how did this woman get hired to this position! anyone know who can be contacted to get this person fired
You can't fire board members. She was elected by people just like herself;the dumbest of the dumb within the township. They're probably proud of themselves.
This is why it is so important to vote for smart and conscientious individuals for the school board.

Yes, yes, yes. God forbid that we teach our children right from wrong. God forbid that we we fail to teach our children that nothing is really 'wrong' as long as no one really gets 'hurt' by it. God forbid that we teach our children to expect a higher standard of conduct from those we set in place as our leaders. We're all down in this hog wallow together. Judge not lest ye be judged, and all that other Central Office ethic.
Most students will see through this cover-up. By age 60 people are set in their ways. He needs to resign and do something else. He will probably stay, smile, whine, and get his way.
