Top Decatur School District Salaries for 2008-2009 School Year

Today I obtained a public record from the Indiana State Board of Accounts that lists the name and salary of every employee of the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township. I asked for the latest record and received one filed on January 15, 2009. Every year, every governmental unit in Indiana must report the amount of salary payable to each employee for the month of January. Below I have the name of every administrator and the amount of salary reported for the month of January, 2009. I also calculated the yearly salary from that. Since the School District pays twice a month, it was a simple matter of multiplying the month's wages by 12. Also included is the same information for Directors or Supervisors as well as other top earners in the District. In the table below I sorted these employees by building.

Why are these administrators being paid so much a month? And since this report is from a year ago it isnt even including the raises that they got in the middle of the year.
I see a couple names on this list that if they just terminated them the township would be out of debt.

What exactly do athletic directors & recreation managers do?

This is absolutely horrifying. I am a teacher in the district and we are the ones "in the grind" and actually working with children every day. To think that administrators make this much money is simply outrageous. But yet, teachers are the ones being asked to take a pay cut. It also needs to be mentioned that administrators only pay $1 for their insurance coverage PER YEAR and yet again, teachers are being asked to consider changing insurance plans to ones with lower coverage. Where is the sense in all this? I guess I should have stuck it out in Pharmacy school instead.

52,000?? for running the Pavillion. I would hope that should seal the deal for that facility. Yet another reason why goverment should not be in the "for profit" endevours. Payroll is so far out of whack it is not even funny. Of course these salaries did not get there overnight...there is enough blame for everyone. Right Pat. Although I'd more than likely vote for you again.

The money train is Decatur has got to STOP. Top pay for the worse results is outlandish.

Wow ask and ye shall receive. I can not believe that Ms. Adams is paid this amount for what she does! She does not even do her actual job, not sure what shes actually doing for 102,000 a year but I'll take her spot. From my understanding Doc Rather is leaving (i'd rather keep him), both Baer's need to go, Ms Adams needs to go, ms rogers needs to go and Mr. Pellico. And I'm sure there are some more. But see I just saved 740,000 for the year and I think thats a great place to start. I'm sure they can get unemployment for awhile! And how can the gentleman running the Pavillion be making more money than the head of our security? Please tell me that DC thinks more of our kids safety than that!

There is nothing wrong with us keeping the Pavillion, I think we should. It has never been handeled correctly. It could be used for so much more. It is in disrepair and needs help. I know that the 20 per student a year is not enough. Stundents and Seniors membership fees should be 50 per year. These kids are paying $50 for an XBOX game, I think they can come up with the $50 per year. The adult yearly fee should go from 85 to 120. And then maybe another slight increase the following year. Since our City has not provided us with such a building in our area, this community needs this.

Lisa Cook is not a licensed school administrator. She is paid more than a most experienced teacher. Last night the Board approved cutting one central office administrator and 15% paycut for Stinson. Now he will make just $250,000. I guess they are counting Jeff Baer's retirement as a reduction but they already hired the Perry Township business guy? Decatur employees and residents need to wake up.

Come on Mr. Stinson and Board Members, show the community you CAN make the tough decisions and let your buddies at the admin level go. I challenge you to cut 1 million out of your department. Even with less staff I know those that will be left are very smart and can keep it all going.

What meeting was held last night and where can we get the minutes from it?

Wow,
I wish that I had had the opportunity to go to college and to work so very hard to get to the places that those folks are at... It just goes to show you that education and hard work Do pay off !!!!!

Now if you could only publish the amounts that doctors and dentist make and do something about that !!!!!

i'm trying to understand why the baer family had such an amazing health insurance expense???? i thought they were married? i thought they would be on the same plan? if married admins working for the same township are to collect insurance benefits, should they not have a WAY LOWER expense for said service????

i agree that some students could absolutely afford the $50.00 per year. i also know that some can't. could there not be a program for those students? we have free or reduced lunch. or even offer membership to said students based on grade average???? just a thought.

Just as CEO's make much more than employees at their companies, a district level administrator making more than a teacher is completely acceptable. If you are a teacher and you want as much as administrators, earn the credentials and get the job. I have been a classroom teacher for 11 years - I work hard and my kids do well, but...I make a teacher salary b/c I'm a teacher. When I want an administrator salary, I'll become an administrator.

I looked at that pay schedule and just felt sickened. How has Decatur Twp. Schools gotten so out of hand? What do all those high paid people do? The teachers have been told to take a 5% cut in salary or lay off teachers. Does this mean 32-33 kids in each classroom? I believe the kids and parents of Decatur Twp. deserve better and should demand that the board get rid of the top heavy administration and get back to business of preparing kids for the future - in the classroom.

Can someone please tell me what Gary Pellico does for a 6 figure income?

Anonymous said...

We cannot wait on an election. This is now problem. They could reduce the salaries and reduce the number of days assigned to work.
the kids would not suffer if Pellico and others worked fewer days like teachers and did not get paid vacations. Teachers don't get paid vacations.

Lay off all the people on the Top Decatur School District. For six months. See how we run without them. Bet, even better than before. And, there is your cuts. We can run without them just as well. Try it. Or are you scared?

On top of Susan's pay she also has free use of a Township truck that includes township gas and insurance, which she drives all the time including after work, to and from home to the store, ect ect
how nice

Why was Mr. Opsahl paid as an administrator in January when he was a teacher at Stephen Decatur?

Anonymous said...

Why do we need 6 VPs at DCHS. That's almost 3/4 of a million in salaries.

If it's ok with Had Enough Indy, I would encourage everyone to print a copy of this wage chart and to show as many people as possible.

anon 5:40 - this is information from a public record. Do with it as you wish. I will continue to try to get a copy of the 2010 info - as soon as the School District complies with the law and provides it to the State Board of Accounts...
