You will recall the gynormous salaries of Bell, CA, elected and appointed officials and the outrage that resulted from an LA Times expose' on the matter (see "Bell City - Just the Absurd Apex of Business as Usual", if you perchance missed this one).
Well, the hammer has been coming down. UPI is reporting that the City Manager, Assistance City Manager, and Police Chief, whose combined salaries topped $1.6 million per year, have resigned. The four of five City Council members have all agreed to a 90% reduction in their roughly $100,000 per year part time salaries - down to $673 per month. The fifth member only makes $8000 per year as it is. (I erroneously noted only 3 Council members in my previous blog entry, as these were the only ones noted on the Bell website) And the Mayor is now working for free and vows not to seek re-election in March, when his current term expires.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles County and State officials are investigating the salaries to determine if laws were broken.

Hot damn! Any chance of Stinson and his fat-cat pals getting struck with a sense of conscience and resigning too? Or the cake-eaters on the school board remembering the children in our school district, and cutting the salaries and perks on Ali Baba And His Forty Administrators???

Stinson will not resign "on his own." The taxpayers could sign a petition, present the petition to the board at the next board meeting, hope the media picks up the story, and then Stinson POSSIBLY would resign while blaming thos who signed the petition. It just won't happen on its own. Might also do a petition for Susan Adams and DR. Sullivan.
What is the status of their pensions? The pensions were as ludicrous as the salaries they received.
There is a school board meeting this Thursday, July 29. Executive Session at 7:00 p.m. and then public meeting at 8:15 p.m. Might be interesting if people attend to see what is happening??????
Jon - as far as I have read or heard, the pensions remain stratospheric.
Word on the CBS nightly news tonight is that there is an investigation of police officers handing out absentee ballots and telling folks how to vote in the last Council election.
I still haven't read or heard what the Mayor and Asst Mayor salaries were.

It says staff report and high school handbook. Wonder if they are going to try to make the retirement benefits legal after the fact?
