IndyStar Reporting Breaking News - Indiana Democrats Trigger Showdown

The IndyStar website is reporting that Indiana House Democrats have left the State in order to kill so-called 'right to work', also known as 'right to work for less' legislation.
Seats on one side of the Indiana House were nearly empty today as House Democrats departed the the state rather than vote on anti-union legislation.

A source tells the Indianapolis Star that Democrats are headed to Illinois, though it was possible some also might go to Kentucky. They need to go to a state with a Democratic governor to avoid being taken into police custody and returned to Indiana.
and,
Today, the union members who have filled the Statehouse — an estimated 4,000 according to the Indiana State Police — held a rally, chanting such things as “Ditch Mitch” and “Save Our Families,” which he must have heard as he worked in his nearby Statehouse office.
More as it develops.

No surprise there. The democrats aren't about to risk losing their cash cow of union contributions. They'll bring the government to a complete halt rather than allow union workers the freedom to not be forced to donate to the democratic party.

Workers pay dues to enable the union to improve their wages and protect their on-the-job safety.

The Democrats are doing just what they should - standing up for working Hoosiers.

My kid's second grade teacher needs her on-the-job security protected? Or does she need her greater than CPI pay raises and defined benefit pension protected?

Since the democrats failed to show up to work, do we still have to pay them?

If the state docks their pay, the unions will make up the difference with money they've forcibly shaken down from the dues-paying members who have no choice in whether they pay, or where the union bosses spend it. Then the medical students with ACORN will write the democrat legislators excuses. So much for 'rule of law' in this state.

Anon 7:42 - Jon Murray of the Star is reporting that they do get paid, as have the republicans when they didn't show up.

The irony of the "Ditch Mitch" signs is that Governor Daniels doesn't want the General Assembly to deal with right-to-work any more than the union protesters do. Of course, that's not relevant to these protesters.

Isn't it about time that people wake up and smell the dead "daniels" & "tony" roses. They are doing everything in their power to kill public education. I would like for them to stand in my shoes one day.

They need to remember that I'm the "PROFESSIONAL" in the classroom and they are the "PROFESSIONAL" in the public arena.

Maybe we should give them a yearly test to see if they keep their jobs or get a 1% raise.

They could do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave education to the "PROFESSIONALS" ---- teachers. It's not broke so don't try and fix it!!!!!

I don't think any of us have anything but admiration for professionalism. It's the union thug shake-down of taxpayers that everyone's objecting to.

Any thinking person that is not benefiting directly from the union corruption of our state and federal governments now sees why the union influence must be severely curtailed!

Pat Buchanan does an excellent job summing up what's at stake in Wisconsin and in other states that are finally waking up...

Actually, what the governor wants to end is the scandalous practice of powerful unions raising millions and running phone banks and get-out-the-vote operations for politicians who thank them with wages, benefits and job security no private employer can match.
