Decatur School Board Meets Tonight and Tomorrow Night

The Mooresville-Decatur Times is reporting that the MSD Decatur Township School Board will hold a work session tonight, February 10, beginning at 6 pm in the Central Office - presumably the Board room. The paper also reports that the School Board will hold two back to back meetings tomorrow night - an executive session at 5:30 pm at the Central Office, followed by its regular monthly meeting at 7 pm at the High School - presumably the cafeteria.

Wonder if their executive session will be catered again?

  1. Is there an executive session prior to the work session today?

  2. Isn't it interesting that board meetings at almost all neighboring school districts are listed on the school website????

  3. The contact information - at least email addresses - are available on the other websites for the Board members, as well.

So, too, are contact information for teachers, should a parent want to actually have an exchange.

So, too, are the minutes for special sessions of the board.

So, too, are the agendas for the meetings - with action items noted so that the public can decide if there is something of particular interest to be decided.

One could go on and on about the deficient use of the District's website. The posting of as little useful information as possible would seem to be the goal of the website.

  4. Are all of these meetings open to the public?

  5. I agree. Mike Kugelman said a long time ago that it was a road to bankruptcy.

  6. anon 10:59 -- the executive session is not open to the public. The work session is open to the public, although I doubt there will be any opportunity to speak. The regular meeting is open to the public, and you will have to sign up to speak during the 'patron comments' segment of the meeting - which is one of the first items on the agenda.

  7. There is a method to the madness.

  8. Oh yeah, then give me a hint to what the method is?

  9. What I was referring to is that the more information that is kept from the community the easier it is for certain people to get their way.

  10. Is it typical to have patrons address a school board before you find out what's being presented and voted on? Or is that just local Decatur insanity?

  11. THE CATERING TRUCK WAS BACKED UP TO CENTRAL OFFICE LAST NIGHT . WHAT WAS GOING ON LAST NIGHT?

  12. They had a work session. Probably will be there again tonight. They just don't get it.

  13. anon 10:32 -- someone else told me that, too. I guess Stinson and the Board still don't understand. Why should a $9.8 million hole impact their lives?

  14. So what happened at the work session last night?

  15. Live from the board meeting:

Just approved a vague proposal to reduce athletic costs by $172 thousand. No specific positions or programs or positions cut. Athletic directors, coaches, and principals will "figure it out".

  16. anon 7:58 -- that's just AWESOME !! Thanks for the live update !!

Did the Board REALLY pass their authority and duty over to the Administration, again? What ARE they doing????

The next Board simply must do the job that State Law requires. That is not asking too much.

  17. LIVE UPDATE #2:

    Will Lynwood close?
    They'll investigate it.
    Will DDA & DEC move?
    They'll investigate it.
    Will the ECC move?
    They'll investigate it.

  18. anon 8:48 -- um, when will decisions actually get made? I'm all for this Board waiting until the next Board is seated for final decisions -- but at least say that is what you are doing, if that is, indeed, what you are doing.

Maybe they are just waiting for the public to stop showing up...

Yes, they smiled and nodded and nodded and smiled. And firsted and seconded. A bunch of bobble heads.

What are they doing? Well, they must only be eating at their work sessions!

  20. live updater -- thanks -- sad for our community -- but thanks for giving us this view.

  21. This meeting was sad! I do not like that nobody can say anything. No q & A sessions. Stinson did insist on giving 20% of his pay up no matter what the board thinks he should do. I think this was the plan all along. Teachers need to cut 3 million but the teachers and union will decide where that money is coming from. Everytime I go to these meetings I leave with more questions than I went in with. To bad I can not ask questions and get answers.

  22. Well I sure hope they are not waiting for the next board to make decisions, because as of today there still were no names added to run for the open positions. Lynwood is a very big item up for debate. You would think that someone from there would try to run for a seat to help Lynwood out in it's apparent transition. The way Stinson was going around it, I would say that closing it as an elementary is a certainty. What a shame. That means that we will now have 6th graders back on the bus with K - 1st graders. Can anyone see a problem coming from this? They approved to cut another security officer, so I guess that will leave 1 person that is familiar with our schools. So glad they are thinking in the best interest of our kids! You could tell that this board makes their decisions at the catered work sessions. They all looked like they were going off of the scripts they made last night! And all they were doing was blowing smoke up our skirts trying to make us feel good about what they have done to our school system. What they tell us is progress is just them spending money on what they like.
COME ON NEIGHBORS>>>someone from Mars Hill, Southwest Hills, Heartland Crossing STEP UP and run for ELECTION. We can't address these problems if there is no change on the board and we will not have another opportunity for another 2 years!

  23. Seriously? The board elected by the people of the township to represent the people of the township decide they will leave the decision making up to the administration that got them into this mess? If they don't want to do the job they were elected to do then why don't they just resign now? Oh, wait. They would miss out on the free food catered to them during their "work" sessions.

I wish I still lived in the township. I have no experience in any public office but I am sure I would be more effective and more efficient than those who currently hold the positions.
